Couples Counselling in Edinburgh & Online
I offer couples counselling in Edinburgh and online across the UK for partners who want to improve communication, rebuild trust, and better understand the patterns shaping their relationship.
Feeling Stuck in Repeating Patterns
Are you finding yourselves stuck in constant arguments, feeling unheard or misunderstood? Do you miss the connection and intimacy you once shared? It’s painful when the love you once had feels distant. It’s even harder when every attempt to fix things seems to push you further apart.
As an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist, I specialise in helping couples reconnect, improve communication and rebuild trust. Often, when couples argue, it’s not about the issue at hand—it’s about deeper emotions that aren’t being addressed. One partner can feel rejected, and the other feels criticised. These emotions lead to cycles of blame, defensiveness and isolation, leaving both partners feeling alone and disconnected.
Together, we can look at and identify these patterns and uncover the negative cycle that is pushing you apart. I’ll help you discover the underlying emotional needs driving your arguments. I will support you in expressing those needs in ways that invite compassion and understanding. You’ll learn to listen to each other in a different way inviting a vulnerability that is more bonding and connecting. This way, you can feel truly heard and supported.

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a structured, evidence-based approach to couples therapy, developed by Dr Sue Johnson. Grounded in attachment theory and the science of emotions, EFT helps couples better understand the patterns that create distance, conflict and disconnection within relationships.

What Happens in Couples Therapy?
Together, we explore the patterns that may leave you both feeling stuck, disconnected, frustrated or alone within the relationship. Emotionally Focused Therapy helps couples create a safe enough space to become more open and emotionally vulnerable with one another.
As trust and emotional safety begin to grow, many couples experience a deeper sense of closeness, understanding and connection. You can begin to communicate in new ways that help rebuild trust, strengthen your emotional bond and create a more secure and resilient relationship.
EFT is a well-researched therapeutic approach with strong evidence supporting its effectiveness in helping couples repair and strengthen their relationships.

“The most functional way to regulate difficult emotions in love relationships is to share them.”
